Phnom Kulen and Beng Mealea Tour

This mountain is located 50 Kms north of Siem Reap and almost 500 meters above the sea level. Once was a capital city of the Khmer Kingdom. This mountain is formed of sandstone which was very important for the construction of the temples in Angkor period. Its highest point is 487 meters ( 1598 ft ) and its height is quite regular averaging 400 meters ( 1300 ft ) all along the range. It stretches around 40 Kms ( 25 ) miles in a WNE-ESE direction.

You will be greeted and pick up from your hotel lobby by our experience tour guide and driver then ready  for the tour.  First stop is ticket office to get your  Kulen National Park entrance ticket then make our trip straight ahead  to the thousand Linga river on top of the mountain where there are thousands of small Lingam carvings carved into the bed of the river since 800s Ad during the reign of Jayavarman 2th who used this mountain to be the headquarter for establishing his new religious cult known as Devaraja or God King cult. This site is considered as the birthplace of the Khmer empire and is still a sacred site for Cambodians today. After observing this we move on to the topmost where a huge reclining Buddha statue carved out of a single block of sandstone since 16t Ad rendered a breathtaking view from up there. After we do our short walk all the way down to the waterfall to enjoy our swimming and lunch along the river.
After we head to Beng Mealea, the 12th century temple means Lotus Pond located at the foot of the Kuken mountain where the Khmer empire began. It was built as Hindu temple and would probably completed by Jayavarman 7th. It primary material is sandstone where the quarry site is only several kilometers away and the building itself is largely unrestored with many trees, vines and some thick brush thriving amidst its collapsing tower, courtyards and walk ways of which many of its stones lying in a huge heaps. Beng Mealea is the isolated ruin with fewer visitors.
Return to town. End of the tour.
